Do You Talk With God?

If you meet someone you like, how do you get to know her? Or him? The best way I know is by spending time together. Talking. Would you like to know God? If so, then you have to spend time together. Do you talk with God? Now the fact that God is in heaven and you are here does pose a problem. And then there’s the fact that we are flesh and blood humans and he is a spiritual being.

God Is Spirit…

God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” John 4:24 NIV

John 4:24 NIV

Though we are flesh and blood, we do have a spiritual side. Since God in heaven above loves us, he gave us a means to reach him. To worship him and even to talk with him.

Talking With God in Prayer

Prayer is the means God has given us to communicate with him. What happens when you talk with God? No one can see your words wafting heavenward. If you pray silently, then no one can hear it. No one other than God, that is.

By talking with God in prayer, you develop a relationship with our creator in the same way you’d build a relationship with someone you love here on earth. So start the day in prayer as we saw in the first post in this series: Finding God Through Prayer.

End The Day In Prayer

In Day One, we started the day with prayer. Let’s take the next step and end the day in the same way. I truly hope you started your morning in prayer today. When you begin your day in prayer, you build your relationship with him.

By talking with God at the beginning and the end of the day, you add a building block of belief to your life. Perhaps that block is one of many. Or it may be your first. Add another block of belief tomorrow and you will soon have a firm foundation of faith:

Each day of prayer can be a building block in the foundation of your faith and your future.

We End the day with prayer & the Word of God

Before we say our final prayer at night, my wife and I listen to one chapter in the Bible on You Version. You Version is a free Bible app. When you use it, you join more than 500 million believers worldwide.

Claire thought this would be a great way to end the day. And she was right. We usually listen to just one chapter, but one night we must have fallen asleep and the app just kept on going. We were in the Book of Daniel, but I woke up with a start as I heard the reader saying, “Hosea.” We had both slept through most of Daniel! To be honest, I don’t know if there is a subliminal benefit from listening to the Bible while sleeping, but if there is such a benefit, we got it that night.

After the reading, we say a prayer and fall asleep. Try it and see how your life begins to change.

Yours in Christ, Kurt
