Update on Book Six in The Last Disciple Series
I’ve received a number of requests for an update on Book Six in The Last Disciple Series. I’m well into the first draft and, Lord willing, I’ll have that done soon. Then comes editing, proofreading, formatting, and cover design. The plan is to have Book Six it out in early 2027. The title will be: The Last Disciple: Seven Cities.
The Last Disciple: Seven Cities
You may recognize the names of these seven cities because they feature prominently in the first chapters of the Book of Revelation:
“I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, like a trumpet 11 saying, “What you see, write in a book and send to the seven assemblies: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.”
These cities also appeared in Book Three (The Last Disciple: Exile in Ephesus) when John and Emmaus visited them. Here’s a short excerpt:
“Timothy counted the cities on his fingers. “That makes six. Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.”
John glanced at Emmaus. “Only six, eh?”
“Six it is. Unless you include Ephesus. With our city, you have seven. A number that indicates completeness.”The Last Disciple: Exile in Ephesus (Chapter Nine, p. 43)
Seven Cities
In Book Six, believers will gather from the seven cities to meet with John, Timothy, and Avram. This gathering illustrates the growth of the body of Christian believers in the Greek cities. It also demonstrates how difficult it was to stay true to the Gospel message in the face of worldly issues and distractions.
The Letters of John
Book Six begins in 86 AD as John begins writing the letters we know as 1 John, 2 John, and 3 John. These are often called epistles, which comes from a Greek word meaning to send or write a letter.
As John slows down a bit given his age, he uses letters to stay in touch with believers. The three letters we have in the New Testament are wonderfully sweet and concise versions of the Gospel message John gave us in the Gospel of John.
My fascination with the life of the Apostle John continues and I’m excited to be working on the next book in this series of Christian historical novels. I hope you are excited too. The plan is to publish this book in January 2027
